Mosques and city life have been replaced with nature and island life for a couple of days. We have checked in at cozy Irman Boutique Hotel in Qeshm, on Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf. The entire island is an UNESCO Global Geopark, which means this particular area is important for understanding the Earth’s evolution. Only a limited amount of people can live on the island, so special permits are required to move here. Those who live here have different registration plates on their cars than the rest of Iran, and they do not have to pay taxes to the same extent as those living on the mainland.
We did not bring our car to Qeshm but instead we have had a driver taking us to all the places we wanted to see. We visited Khorbas Cave, Chahkooh Canyon and took a boat to the mangrove forest in Hara Forest Protected Area. The landscape here is really cool – and hot! We have had about 38 C and it is not even summer yet.
Also, we rented a boat to go to the island of Hengam, for a quick visit. On the actual island we just saw the small beach market, which sold only items you are not supposed to purchase (like sea shells, skin products made from shark etc.), but off the coast we saw more. Not far from land there is a spot where dolphins regulary show up, and we had the pleasure of seeing lots of them. They are really so pretty!
