On the road between Tehran and Isfahan, where we are now, is the city of Kashan – a low-rise city with about 400 000 inhabitants. At first glance, it does not look like much. Here almost all the houses are made of unpainted clay, very clean and mainly only one floor high. The impression is almost a bit creepy, similar to films from the Middle East when there are car chases on extremely narrow roads between houses that look almost desolate. After our day here, however, we discovered that behind the facades is something completely different..
Firstly, our hotel, Morshedi House Boutique Hotel. Behind the very inconspicuous door in the narrow alleyway, hid a real oasis – a little family-run hotel with charming rooms around a pond of rippling water, surrounded by pomegranate trees under the blu sky. Secondly, Abbasi Traditional Restaurant. When we came down all the stairs, a large room opened up with high ceilings, a small pond in the middle and traditional Persian ”tables” where you sit on carpets and eat.
Also the historical buildings we visited, such as Sultan Amir Ahmad Bathhouse and Borujerdiha House, which was built over 150 years ago, surprised us. From the street – not very impressive. From the inside – significantly more so. We also visited the historic Persian garden Fin Garden, and Niasar Waterfall, just outside Kashan.
